Negros Occ., Bacolod City tourism frontliners get aid from DOLE-DOT

BACOLOD CITY, May 10 (PIA) -- Some 16,149 tourism frontliner from the province of Negros Occidental and Bacolod City received more than one-third share of the total beneficiaries of the Department of Tourism - Department of Labor and Employment (DOT-DOLE) Cash Assistance for Displaced Tourism Workers under the Bayanihan Act 2.

Western Visayas has a total of 44,362 beneficiaries approved by DOLE 6 amounting to P221,810,000, where each beneficiary will get P5,000 cash. From the approved amount, Negros Occidental including Bacolod City received a total of P80,745,000.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and DOLE 6 Regional Director Cyril Ticao led the virtual awarding of these cash assistance to the different organizations in the province.

Among the first batch of beneficiaries include tourism stakeholders from Sugarland Hotel, Spa Natura, Thelma Canillo Native Products, Negrosanon Entrepreneurs Marketing Corporation, Bacolod Integrated Trisikad Operators and Drivers Association Inc, Sipaway Island Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association, Tumandok Crafts Industries, Roberto Salas Benedicto Central de Azucarera de La Carlota Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association Inc, Prosperidad Highlands Mountain Resort, Suyac Island Eco-Park Tourist Attendant Association, Mayana Peak Tour Guide Association, Panaderia de Quan, JKN Fruit Farm, Melkens Seafood Restaurant, and Ruyo Mangrove Growers Association.

Romulo-Puyat has assured continued working relationship with the Governor and the provincial government as well as the local government units which will be good for the tourism stakeholders.

"Tourism is everybody's business. I am overjoyed that most of our beneficiaries are tricycle drivers who are mostly needing this assistance," she said.

Meanwhile, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson thanked the DOT and DOLE for the assistance to the tourism industry here, which according to him, is badly affected by the pandemic.

"Times are hard but know that the government is trying hard to mitigate the impact of the pandemic. Use your grant judiciously," Lacson told the beneficiaries during the virtual awarding ceremony. *(LTP/EAD-PIA6 Negros Occidental)
